The Q-Tips were formed 20 years ago at St. Mary's College of Maryland with almost all of its original members living on the same floor of the same dorm. From the beginning they were out to prove that you could play in a rock and roll band, get free beer and the occasional paycheck, AND graduate on-time -- hopefully without honors.
With a charismatic lead singer, a driving rhythm section and twin guitar attack, this band’s following was sure to grow. Add to that a horn section most bands would die for and a virtuoso/mad scientist keyboard player, and the Q-Tips' following soon moved well beyond the confines of their campus and into the surrounding St. Mary’s/Solomon’s Island area. After graduation, gigs in DC and beyond soon followed. While weddings were not out of the question, turning down the volume and taking requests usually were.
The Q-Tips now all have real jobs and families, so don't expect to see them playing every weekend at places like the Green Door, but the boys still play the occasional gig, drink more than the occasional beer, and remain close friends. You can count on them playing their annual picnic each summer, usually held on or near Solomon’s Island, Maryland. Check out their website for sightings and future gigs.
